A.R. Rahman and CM Neiphiu Rio Unveil Exciting Naga International Studio
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and renowned musician AR Rahman announced the establishment of the ‘Naga International Studio,’ a cutting-edge music and creative facility in Kohima, on Friday. This facility, conceptualized by Rahman, will boast advanced recording amenities, a performance auditorium, and various creative infrastructures.
In a social media update, CM Rio stated that the studio aims to serve as a hub for talent development, storytelling, and producing music and creative works inspired by Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage. He also expressed appreciation to Rahman for recognizing the state’s creative potential and investing in its future.
Rio emphasized that the Naga International Studio will merge traditional Naga music, narratives, and indigenous art forms with contemporary production techniques. This initiative seeks to preserve cultural identity while connecting with global audiences.
Rahman commented on the announcement, stating, “Nagaland has a rare musical soul which is honest, original, and deeply rooted in its culture. The Naga International Studio is envisioned as a space where this heritage can meet world-class creativity, allowing young artists from the region to collaborate, experiment, and create music that resonates not just nationally, but globally.” He expressed his gratitude to CM Rio, the government of Nagaland, and the Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA) for their vision and support in realizing this project.
Additionally, Rahman launched the trailer for his documentary ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing,’ directed by Rohit Gupta. This film explores Nagaland’s musical renaissance and its evolving creative identity.
Designed by Bluecube Architects and Riyasdeen Riyan, the Naga International Studio benefits from the facilitation of TAFMA and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).
