Chief Minister P.S. Golay participated in the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Agriculture in the North-Eastern Region via video conference on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia.
In a post on Facebook, Golay highlighted the discussions that revolved around key recommendations from the High-Level Task Force report, which aims to strengthen agricultural value chains throughout the North-Eastern Region. Strategies discussed included enhancing crop productivity, minimizing post-harvest losses, increasing value addition and processing, and improving market linkages.
Additionally, the meeting focused on the categorization of crops into backbone, growth-driver, premium, and emerging segments. Other topics included the establishment of Geographical Indication (GI) organic clusters, the adoption of precision agriculture, and the strengthening of cold-chain and logistics infrastructure. Golay emphasized the importance of securing funding and improving access to finance, technology, and investments.
The Chief Minister pointed out the necessity for coordinated efforts among the Centre, States, and relevant institutions to tackle longstanding structural challenges. The goal is to convert the report’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term recommendations into measurable outcomes that align with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
