Debabrata Saikia Calls on India to Address Lynching of Hindu Man in Bangladesh
Guwahati, Dec 21: Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, has urged the Government of India to take immediate and decisive diplomatic action following the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. Saikia condemned the incident, describing it as an act of barbaric violence and a tragic reminder of the ongoing threats faced by Hindu minorities and other vulnerable groups in Bangladesh.
“Such acts of targeted violence are not just an attack on human dignity but also a serious violation of universal human rights principles and the spirit of neighboring relations,” Saikia stated. He called for the Ministry of External Affairs to engage with the Bangladeshi government at the highest levels, demanding a swift investigation, justice for the victim, and measures to prevent future atrocities.
Saikia emphasized the need for international advocacy, urging India to raise the issue of minority protection in Bangladesh at various international forums, including the United Nations. He advocated for building a global consensus against majoritarian violence, appealing to the Indian government to leverage its strategic partnerships to promote constructive dialogue and push for institutional safeguards for minorities in Bangladesh.
He also called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address this pressing humanitarian issue, reassuring both the Indian populace and the Hindu community of the government’s commitment to their safety. “The need of the hour is for India’s diplomatic strength to result in tangible security for those living in fear,” Saikia concluded.
