Security Heightened in Manipur After Arrest of Active RPF/PLA Cadre
Manipur Police arrested Thangjam Surankumar Singh, a 29-year-old active cadre linked to the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), on charges of extortion. The arrest took place on December 19 at Meitei Lamkhai Crossing, under the jurisdiction of the Singjamei Police Station. Singh is known by several aliases, including Rajesh, Achou, and Luwangcha, and is a resident of Pourabi Awang Leikai in Imphal East.
Police reports indicate that during the arrest, authorities recovered a mobile phone with a SIM card, a wallet containing an Aadhaar card, and Rs 300 in cash from Singh. Investigations are ongoing to determine his involvement in extortion activities and any potential connections to other operatives within the banned group.
In response to security concerns, police and security forces are conducting extensive search operations in vulnerable areas throughout the state to prevent further incidents. As part of these heightened security measures, a total of 114 checkpoints and nakas have been established across both hill and valley districts of Manipur. No additional arrests were reported during these operations.
Authorities also ensured the secure transportation of essential goods by allowing the safe passage of 69 vehicles along National Highway-37. Rigorous security protocols are in effect at sensitive locations, with armed convoys deployed to safeguard essential supply routes against potential threats.
