Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Two Children in Arunachal’s Tezu
Two siblings, aged eight and 15, tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that swept through a residential area in Tezu, the headquarters of Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district, early on December 17. The incident has sparked renewed concerns regarding fire safety in the region’s aging government housing.
The fire erupted around 3:30 AM in Peon Colony, rapidly consuming three dilapidated residential buildings. According to police reports, the age and structure of the buildings facilitated the swift spread of flames, leaving residents with little chance to escape. Unfortunately, both children were found dead inside their home.
Fire brigade and police teams responded quickly, arriving at the scene around 4 AM. They successfully contained the fire, preventing it from extending to nearby houses, as confirmed by officials.
Lohit Superintendent of Police Thupten Jamba confirmed the incident, stating that a case has been registered at the Tezu police station. “The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination for identification and completion of legal formalities,” he said.
While authorities are investigating, they noted that it is “too early to ascertain the cause of the fire.” The children’s parents have been asked to identify the bodies, and further inquiries are underway to determine the origins of the blaze.
Local residents expressed concerns about the condition of the quarters, many of which are several decades old. This tragedy highlights the ongoing risks posed by outdated structures and inadequate fire preparedness in residential colonies throughout the area.
