Urgent Updates: Kerala High Court Awaits Police Report on Suraj Lama’s Heart-Wrenching Disappearance

The Kerala High Court has received a detailed report from the Aluva Deputy Superintendent of Police regarding the mysterious disappearance of Bengaluru resident Suraj Lama. Lama was last seen leaving the Government Medical College Hospital in Kamalassery around midnight on October 10 after being deported from Kuwait, where he had been involved in a spurious liquor incident.

This report was submitted following a habeas corpus petition filed by Lama’s son, prompting inquiries into his whereabouts. Originating from Alipore in West Bengal, Lama had operated a hotel business in Kuwait. His situation took a troubling turn in August when he was hospitalized due to an incident related to illicit liquor. After receiving treatment for 45 days, he was deported back to Kochi on December 5 along with 12 other individuals. However, unlike other passengers, his deportation documents did not include a contact phone number.

Upon arrival at the international airport in Kochi, with no family members to meet him, Lama was observed wandering aimlessly. Authorities directed him to a metro feeder bus to facilitate his journey to Aluva, but no proper arrangements were made for his transfer to Bengaluru. The report raises significant questions about the protocols followed by immigration and airline officials regarding the release of a deported passenger.

Hospital staff allowed Lama to leave without any accompany or further treatment, despite the absence of a bystander. He was noted to be wearing only blue trousers as he departed the hospital. His fate after this moment remains unknown, as he failed to make contact with his family.

Tragically, on November 11, a decomposed body of a male dressed only in blue trousers was discovered in a remote forested area near HMT Colony. Authorities are awaiting DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the remains. According to the report, immigration officials should have taken preventative measures to assist someone lacking a contact number, especially given that medical assistance was available at the airport.

The initial doctor who treated Lama described him as physically stable, leading to his release from medical care at the hour he disappeared. This case underscores the serious implications of inadequate support systems for deported individuals and the potential consequences of neglecting necessary follow-up care.

The investigation continues as the High Court considers the report and the ongoing concerns surrounding Lama’s mysterious disappearance. The need for clearer procedures and safeguards in handling cases of deported individuals has never been more urgent. The community awaits further developments in hopes of bringing clarity to this distressing situation.

This unfolding story highlights the critical intersection of immigration, law enforcement, and public safety, calling into question the responsibilities of authorities in ensuring the well-being of vulnerable individuals. As the investigation progresses, families affected by similar situations look for answers and accountability in the system.
