Arunachal Pradesh Congress Demands Transparent Elections: Act Now!
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has urged the residents of Arunachal Pradesh to honor the Constitution of India and ensure that the upcoming Panchayati Raj and Municipal Elections in 2025 are held in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner. In a statement released ahead of the elections, the APCC highlighted the importance of the right to vote-a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution through universal adult franchise-as a cornerstone of India’s democracy. The party reaffirmed its dedication to democratic values, emphasizing that every eligible voter should be able to cast their vote freely and without fear or pressure, abiding by the principle of “One Person, One Vote, One Value.”
The APCC firmly opposed any forms of impersonation, proxy voting, or substitute voting, arguing that these practices tarnish the integrity of the electoral process. The party has called on Municipal Election Returning Officers, District Election Officers, and the State Election Commissioner to facilitate smooth and peaceful elections while preventing any law and order issues. They have advocated for appropriate police presence, especially at sensitive polling stations, to protect both voters and the electoral process.
The party also stressed that all political parties, candidates, office-bearers, and their supporters should strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct, relevant election laws, and orders from the State Election Commission. They cautioned that any efforts to intimidate voters or misuse governmental resources would constitute serious breaches of electoral norms and democratic principles.
Acknowledging the critical role of grassroots institutions, the APCC pointed out that Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies are vital for local self-governance. The dignity, autonomy, and credibility of these bodies must be preserved, with elections that reflect constitutional ethics, institutional integrity, and democratic processes.
Furthermore, the APCC encouraged all stakeholders to maintain a climate of peace, brotherhood, restraint, and political maturity throughout the election period, urging a complete avoidance of election-related violence or provocations. They affirmed that political disputes should be resolved through democratic means, rather than intimidation or coercion.
Reiterating Arunachal Pradesh’s tradition of peaceful democratic engagement, the APCC expressed hope that the Panchayati Raj and Municipal Elections in 2025 would reinforce the State’s commitment to the rule of law, democratic principles, and constitutional governance.
