Meluri Celebrates Human Rights Day: Join the Fight for Justice Today!
The culmination program of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, coinciding with Human Rights Day, took place on December 10 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Meluri, Nagaland. Organized by the District Administration and Sakhi – One Stop Centre, Mission Shakti Meluri, the event aimed to raise awareness on the importance of human rights.
During the event, SDPO Meluri, T. Desela Sangtam, who served as the guest speaker, emphasized the critical nature of Human Rights Day. He also encouraged students to report any incidents of abuse to school authorities, the police, or Sakhi – OSC.
Jitsiasa Nyusou, the Centre Administrator, provided attendees with information about the services offered by Sakhi – OSC, including emergency helplines 181 and 1089. Legal case worker Chiekerho Nyusou addressed the topics of gender equality and the awareness of “Good Touch & Bad Touch” as part of the POCSO Act, 2012. Additionally, the SDPO led participants in taking a pledge against child marriage.
The program commenced with an invocation by Rev. Fr.
