The North East Media Forum (NEMF), in collaboration with My Home India, has revealed the winners of the 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards for 2025. These awards honor journalists whose work has significantly highlighted issues concerning the North Eastern region of India. Kalyan Barooah, who served as a correspondent for The Assam Tribune in New Delhi, passed away in 2021 following the devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. His dedication to raising awareness about North East India’s issues remains widely acknowledged.
The initiation of these awards was announced during a memorial meeting organized by the NEMF and the Press Club of India on May 1, 2022, by Sunil Deodhar, founder of My Home India. The first two Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards ceremonies took place on December 11 in 2023 and 2024 at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
For the 2025 awards, the five-member jury included former AIR Director General Moushumi Chakrabarty and senior journalists Achinta Bora, Sandeep Phukan, Sachin Gogoi, alongside IIMC Aizawl Regional Director Prof. Shashwati Goswami. The jury assessed the nominations across various categories and announced the winners on Sunday.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Monalisa Changkija from Nagaland Page for her extensive contributions to journalism in the North East region. In the Print Category, Amal Goswami, Chief Staff Reporter of Dainik Janambhumi in Assam, emerged as the winner. The Electronic Media Award was awarded to Kshetrimayum Premchand, the Chief Reporter of SKTV News based in Imphal, Manipur. In the Digital Media category, Mridul Kumar Handique from Pratidin Digital received recognition for his work. No entries were submitted for the Still Photography and Videography categories.
The awards will be formally presented on December 11, 2025, at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late Kalyan Barooah.
