“Unyielding Fight: Mamata Banerjee Vows to Defend Unity Against Divisive Hate”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reaffirmed her commitment to countering communal forces at a public rally in Berhampore on December 6, 2025. Her remarks emphasized the importance of unity amid rising tensions in the region, coinciding with the foundation-laying ceremony for a mosque inspired by the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, led by suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir.

On this significant day, which marks the anniversary of the Babri Masjid’s demolition, the TMC designated December 6 as ‘Sanhati Divas’ or Unity Day, promoting messages of peace and solidarity among different communities. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Banerjee highlighted Bengal’s rich cultural heritage and its history of coexistence, stating, “The soil of Bengal is the soil of unity. This is the land of Rabindranath, the land of Nazrul, the land of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda — this land has never bowed its head before divisive moves, nor will it ever do so.”

The Chief Minister emphasized the collective identity of Bengal, asserting, “Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, and Buddhists — in Bengal, we know how to walk shoulder to shoulder.” She called for communal harmony, highlighting that while individual religious practices are personal, festivals should be celebrated collectively. As part of the TMC’s broader efforts to promote peace, Banerjee extended her greetings to all residents on this day of observance.

Addressing the ongoing struggle against communal hatred, Banerjee stated, “Our struggle will continue against those who fan the flames of communal hatred and play a destructive game against the nation.” She reinforced her government’s dedication to upholding the principles and ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, and reiterated the importance of these values in contemporary governance.

On this day, which also commemorates Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Diwas, Banerjee paid tribute to his legacy, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to social reform and constitutional law. She noted, “It is our pride that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was elected to the Constituent Assembly from Bengal legislature. Bengal played a crucial part in the unfolding of his monumental work.”

This rally comes in the context of a broader political landscape in West Bengal, where the TMC aims to solidify its position against perceived divisive ideologies. The party’s emphasis on promoting unity resonates particularly strong in a state known for its diverse cultural tapestry.

As tensions simmer over communal issues, Banerjee’s declarations reflect a determined stance to safeguard the principles enshrined in the Constitution and foster a spirit of togetherness among all citizens. Her messages resonate as a call to action for solidarity and peace, crucial in navigating the complexities of contemporary Indian society.

Through events like ‘Sanhati Divas,’ the TMC seeks to reinforce communal harmony, echoing the spirit of Bengal’s historic legacy while actively engaging with the challenges of the present day.
