Tragic Jealousy: Woman’s Shocking Crime Against Four Children Revealed
Poonam, a 32-year-old woman from Panipat, Haryana, has been arrested for the alleged murder of four children over the past two years, including her three-year-old son, Shubham. Described by her relatives as detached and withdrawn, Poonam holds a master’s degree in Political Science from Kurukshetra University and a Bachelor of Education from Sonipat. According to police reports, she became envious of attractive children, believing they would outshine her in beauty. Her arrest on December 3, along with her purported confession to the murders, has left her family in shock.
Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Singh revealed that the crimes occurred in three different locations: Poonam’s maternal home, her marital house, and a relative’s residence. Initially, the deaths were perceived as tragic accidents, but investigators later discovered evidence suggesting otherwise. The first two incidents took place in 2023 at Poonam’s residence in Bhawad, where her nine-year-old niece, Ishika, and her son, Shubham, were found dead in a water tank. Authorities suggest Poonam drowned Ishika first to avoid suspicion, subsequently killing her son.
The third murder happened in August 2025 at Poonam’s maternal home in Siwah, involving Jiya, her cousin’s six-year-old daughter. Like the previous cases, her death was initially considered accidental drowning. The final incident, which led to Poonam’s capture, took place on December 1 during a wedding in Naultha village. While most guests were outside for the ceremony, Poonam allegedly followed six-year-old Vidhi, her husband’s cousin’s daughter, to a terrace where she drowned the child in a water-filled tub outside a storeroom. After locking the door from the outside, Poonam returned to the crowd, attempting to conceal her actions.
Concern arose when family members noticed Poonam’s wet clothes, leading to a frantic search for Vidhi that culminated in the discovery of her body. Following this grim revelation, Poonam was taken into custody, her solitary nature further underscored by family descriptions of her preference for spending time alone in her room.
