Supercar Rally in Gnathang: A Global Stage for Thrilling Adventures
Gnathang-Machong MLA Pamin Lepcha is optimistic that the upcoming supercar rally in East Sikkim will elevate the state’s international profile, particularly highlighting the stunning Gnathang Valley. Scheduled for December 13 and 14, the rally will include around 18 high-end vehicles, such as Lamborghinis and Porsches, driving from Gangtok to Nathu La, Tsomgo, Cho La, and Gnathang Valley. Organized by a Mumbai-based group promoting the ‘Ranbhoomi Darshan’ initiative, the rally is both self-funded and self-driven, aiming to boost tourism in remote border areas.
“It is an honor for Sikkim, especially for the people of Gnathang-Machong, as most of the rally route lies within our constituency. We are grateful that the group has chosen our area,” commented MLA Lepcha. The supercar convoy will traverse the historic ‘Old Silk Route,’ a route that is significant due to its proximity to the Indo-China border and its focus on homestay tourism, actively promoted by the state government.
Recently designated as tourism sites under the Ranbhoomi Darshan initiative, both Cho La and Doklam are key areas located within the constituency. The Indian Army and the Government of Sikkim have committed logistical and administrative support to the event, amplifying its significance.
Highlighting the growing tourism appeal of Gnathang Valley, Lepcha emphasized that it has become one of Sikkim’s most picturesque destinations, recently featuring in a music video by Bollywood singer Lucky Ali. “I believe the supercar rally, spearheaded by a prominent group of Mumbai businessmen and women, will provide unprecedented visibility for Gnathang Valley. Their substantial online following will have a cascading effect, attracting more interest,” she stated. The promotional videos created by the rally organizers are already generating excitement among travelers, she noted.
Pamin expressed confidence that when these vehicles arrive and are showcased against the backdrop of the picturesque Dzuluk road, many people across India will take notice. She added that the state government is fully supporting the rally, aligning with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay’s vision to strengthen village tourism in border areas. “As a public representative of Gnathang-Machong, I am involved with the organizers and preparations. We look forward to welcoming them,” she said.
The area has seen a steady increase in homestay tourism, with accommodations now available in Dzuluk, Gnathang, and Kupup. Pamin expressed gratitude to both the Government of India and the Government of Sikkim for including Cho La and Doklam under the Ranbhoomi Darshan initiative, showing appreciation for their actions to open these areas for tourism.
Looking ahead, she believes that government programs like Ranbhoomi Darshan and Vibrant Village, when combined with the supercar rally, will further enhance homestay tourism in the Gnathang-Machong constituency. “Under the visionary leadership of our Chief Minister, the infrastructure for homestay tourism has expanded significantly, greatly increasing our area’s tourism capacity.”
