DoNER Greenlights 2 Major PM-DevINE Projects Worth Rs 135.53 Crore for NE
The Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved two significant projects worth ₹135.53 crore under the PM-DevINE scheme, aimed at fostering development in the northeastern states of Assam, Nagaland, and Tripura. The Empowered Inter-Ministerial Committee (EIMC) held a meeting in New Delhi, during which these projects were greenlit.
The first initiative, titled “Engineered Bamboo Products Promotion through Cluster Strengthening and Export Facilitation in NER,” with a budget of ₹70.98 crore, will be managed by the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC). This project will focus on establishing engineered bamboo clusters in Assam and Nagaland, setting up modern processing facilities, and training 1,000 artisans. It also plans to develop 1,000 hectares of certified bamboo plantations to enhance the value chain, targeting the promotion of high-value engineered bamboo products while ensuring certification and market readiness for both domestic and export sales.
The second project, called “Agarwood Cluster Development Projects in Assam and Tripura,” carries an allocation of ₹64.55 crore and will be implemented by the North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation Ltd (NERAMAC). It aims to develop two model processing clusters in Tripura and Assam, strengthening the agarwood value chain through infrastructure development, skill enhancement, branding, and export facilitation. This initiative is set to directly benefit 14,100 individuals, increase growers’ income, and promote a sustainable agarwood trade in line with PM-DevINE’s goals.
Support from NITI Aayog and other governmental departments was pivotal in the approval of these projects during the EIMC meeting. The PM-DevINE scheme is entirely funded by the central government, which underscores its commitment to the development of the northeastern region.
