Discover Innovation at the 4th Barpeta Book & Science Fair!
The 4th Barpeta National Book and Science Fair commenced on Wednesday at the Barpeta Municipal Field, attracting readers, students, innovators, and cultural enthusiasts from the surrounding area. The event was officially opened by Dr. Babul Chandra Das, the Budha Sattriya of Barpeta Satra, and the science fair section was inaugurated by renowned innovator Padma Shri Uddhab Bharali.
Organized by the Barpeta Book Fair Committee, this biennial event marks the first instance of a combined book and science fair in Barpeta. During the opening ceremony, Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who also leads the organizing committee, highlighted that Barpeta initiated the integration of science fairs into book fairs. “This model later inspired Assam Sahitya Sabha and many other book fairs across the state to incorporate science exhibitions,” he noted.
In his speech, Dr. Babul Chandra Das emphasized Barpeta’s long-standing reputation as a hub of Assamese literary heritage since medieval times. “Our two great Gurus lived and created some of the finest works here. Barpeta continues to showcase its commitment to literature, and this fair reflects that legacy,” he stated.
Padma Shri Uddhab Bharali commended the innovative combination of a book fair and a science fair, describing it as a “forward-thinking idea.” He underscored the importance of science in everyday life and encouraged authors to produce works that inspire students to read with curiosity and excitement.
Numerous leading publishers and exhibitors have set up stalls at the fair, which will remain open until December 10.
