Discover Karnataka’s 2026 Holiday Calendar: Unmissable Public and Restricted Holidays in Bengaluru, Mysore, and Beyond!

The Karnataka government has officially released the public holiday calendar for 2026, detailing designated holidays for Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu, and other regions of the state. The calendar outlines a total of 20 public holidays, including significant observances such as Republic Day, Ugadi, May Day, and Bakrid, among others.

In Bengaluru, government offices, departments, and banks will observe the following holidays throughout the year: January 15 for Uttarayana Punyakala and Makara Sankranti, January 26 for Republic Day, March 19 for Ugadi, March 21 for Khutub-E-Ramzan, March 31 for Mahaveera Jayanthi, April 3 for Good Friday, April 14 for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi, April 20 for Basava Jayanthi and Akshaya Tritiya, May 1 for May Day, May 28 for Bakrid, June 26 for the last day of Moharam, and August 15 for Independence Day. Additionally, holidays on August 26 for Eid-Milad, September 14 for Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata, October 2 for Gandhi Jayanthi, October 20 for Mahanavami and Ayudhapooja, October 21 for Vijayadasami, November 10 for Balipadyami and Deepavali, November 27 for Kanakadasa Jayanthi, and December 25 for Christmas will also be observed.

It is important to note that the list does not include holidays that coincide with Sundays or other regular weekends. Key dates like Maha Shivaratri on February 15, Maharshi Valmiki Jayanthi on October 25, Kannada Rajyothsava on November 1, and Naraka Chaturdashi on November 8 all fall on Sundays and are therefore not included in the official public holiday list. The Karnataka Education Department will release a separate holiday list for educational institutions, as highlighted in the government’s notification.

In addition to the public holidays, Karnataka has also specified a restricted holiday list for 2026. This includes 21 observances where the option exists for government employees to take leave. Important dates include New Year on January 1, Sri Madvanavami on January 27, Holi on March 2, Shab-e-Qadar on March 17, and Eid-Ul-Wida on March 20, among others. The list considers holidays that fall on weekdays, excluding those that align with Sundays or public holidays.

This carefully curated holiday calendar allows citizens to plan their year ahead, ensuring they can participate in cultural and religious celebrations while also accommodating the needs of the workforce.

Karnataka’s total of 20 public holidays offers a diverse range of observances, reflecting the cultural tapestry of the state, while the additional restricted holidays provide ample opportunity for personal time off. For 2026, residents can expect to enjoy a well-structured holiday framework that honors tradition and pragmatism alike.

For more details on holidays affecting schools and educational institutions, the Commissioner of Public Instructions will release a comprehensive list, ensuring all stakeholders are well informed ahead of the upcoming academic year.

As Karnataka moves closer to 2026, residents can start planning for a year filled with observances that celebrate the state’s rich heritage.
