Discover Tripura’s Innovative Organic Farming Model at Dubai Expo
Tripura’s organic farming achievements gained international recognition as Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath showcased the state’s progress at the Middle East Natural & Organic Products Expo (MENOPE) 2025 in Dubai. The event, hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre, brought together producers, buyers, and investors from around the globe, highlighting Tripura’s notable organic products, including the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, aromatic rice varieties like Kalikhasa and Harinarayan, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Gandharaj Lemon, White Sesame, and Foxtail Millet.
Minister Nath announced that Tripura now features over 26,400 hectares of certified organic farmland cultivated by approximately 26,800 farmers. He emphasized that the state has emerged as a leader in sustainable agriculture in India, attributing this success to robust policy support and a strong network of farmers. To facilitate global marketing, 53 organic farmers’ producer companies have been established, streamlining aggregation, processing, branding, and direct sales. “Tripura’s organic farming initiative has become a driver of rural transformation and export potential,” Minister Nath stated to the audience.
The Queen Pineapple, known for its natural sweetness levels ranging from 16 to 20 Brix, along with Tripura’s black rice, rich in antioxidants, received notable praise from food industry representatives. Growing international interest also includes Tripura’s organic ginger, turmeric, and foxtail millet, which are increasingly in demand across Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
Additionally, Minister Nath highlighted the potential of non-traditional export products such as agarwood, agar oil, and bamboo shoots, integrating these resources into modern markets as part of the state’s broader strategy. He extended an invitation to global buyers and investors to participate in the Organic Buyer–Seller Meet scheduled for January 2026 in Tripura, aiming to strengthen trade relationships and investments in the state’s burgeoning organic sector.
