Tragic Arrest: Parents Charged with Son’s Murder Amid Allegations of Disturbing Harassment
The Ambattur Police have arrested a couple, aged 57 and 54, for allegedly murdering their 30-year-old son, Sridhar, an auto driver, due to ongoing harassment that reportedly deprived them of sleep for over ten days. The tragic incident unfolded in Kalyanapuram, near the Ambattur Police Station, where the family had been living since Sridhar’s separation from his wife.
On Sunday morning, neighbors discovered Sridhar’s body at the family home and alerted authorities. The police responded swiftly, with Assistant Commissioner Frank D. Ruben and his team beginning an investigation while arranging for a post-mortem of the victim. Notably absent from the scene were the parents, raising immediate suspicions.
Police investigations led to the detainment of Sridhar’s father, Manmadhan, a butcher who had been working at his shop, and his mother, Kalyani, who was at their daughter’s residence. During interrogation, both parents confessed to the crime, revealing the troubled dynamics within the household.
According to reports, Sridhar had become addicted to alcohol following his separation, leading to frequent disturbances at home. He would often bring other women into their residence, creating chaos and exhibiting violent behavior towards his parents, which left them in a state of distress and sleeplessness.
On the night of the incident, Manmadhan returned home to find Kalyani hesitant to enter due to Sridhar’s aggressive behavior. In a fit of rage, he allegedly armed himself with a pork chopper and fatally attacked his son, slashing his neck. Afterward, he attempted to cover up the crime by cleaning the bloodstains with a floor cleaner before fleeing the scene on his bike.
In a bid to divert attention from himself, Manmadhan later contacted a neighbor, Vijayakumar, asking him to check if ₹3,000 he had left on a shelf was stolen by Sridhar. Upon arriving at the house, Vijayakumar discovered Sridhar’s lifeless body and promptly informed the police, leading to the couple’s arrest.
Manmadhan has been charged with murder, and Kalyani faces charges of abetting the crime. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full details surrounding this chilling incident.
This tragic domestic violence case highlights ongoing issues related to substance abuse and its devastating repercussions on family dynamics. Further updates from the Ambattur Police are expected as they delve deeper into the circumstances leading to this shocking crime.
