BSF Personnel Arrested in Tripura: Major Drug Bust Worth ₹5 Lakh
Tripura Police have arrested three individuals, including a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, for allegedly possessing brown sugar worth approximately ₹5 lakh. The arrests occurred late Wednesday night as part of a coordinated operation between the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Tripura Police.
Authorities initiated the operation following a tip-off regarding the transportation of narcotics. During the raid, they detained Sajiul Islam (22) and Farid Akhter (23), both from Assam, along with Salim Uddin (36), a BSF personnel associated with the 122nd Battalion stationed in Santirbazar, South Tripura district.
The police recovered 128 grams of brown sugar packed in ten cases. A senior police official stated, “We received specific information that some individuals would be traveling with brown sugar. Acting swiftly, the GRP and Tripura Police jointly conducted an operation and detained the trio.”
A case has been filed against the suspects, who are expected to appear in court. The seized drugs have a market value estimated at around ₹5 lakh. Investigations are currently underway to determine if the arrested individuals have connections to a broader drug trafficking network operating in the region.
