Transforming Healthcare: Unveiling State-of-the-Art Facilities at Mattancherry and Fort Kochi Government Hospitals!
Four significant projects, a collaboration between the Kochi Corporation and Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), have officially been inaugurated, enhancing community healthcare and infrastructure in Kochi. Among the newly launched initiatives are expansions at the Woman and Child Hospital in Mattancherry and the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital, as well as a renovated community hall in Kalvathy and the beautification of Diamond Park.
The Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital’s upgrades involved an investment of ₹1.80 crore sourced from the Corporation’s development fund, with an additional ₹40 lakh contributed from BPCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The facility has received substantial improvements, which include the establishment of a geriatric center, a pediatric ward, a casualty unit, a new outpatient block, pay wards, and a physiotherapy center. Notably, ₹50 lakh from the health grant funded the renovation of the geriatric ward. The physiotherapy center is now equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as a laser magnetic stimulation therapy device, marking its debut in Kerala.
Further enhancements at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital include a new three-storey building spread over 15,737 sq. ft., constructed by CSML at a total cost of ₹7.40 crore. This new structure encompasses outpatient counters, dedicated doctors’ rooms, a nursing station, laboratories, a pharmacy, a lift, and a fire safety system. Similarly, a three-storey extension at the Mattancherry Women and Child Hospital, also valued at ₹7.40 crore, adds outpatient counters, doctors’ rooms, a pharmacy, and essential safety features.
Additionally, projects overseen by HLL Lifecare Limited, backed by ₹1.10 crore from the Corporation’s own funds and ₹1.75 crore from the MP development fund, are nearing completion. These upgrades will provide affordable CT and MRI scanning services, expanding access to essential healthcare imaging technologies.
In the realm of community infrastructure, Diamond Park in Mattancherry has undergone a significant transformation with a beautification project that includes landscaping, a new walkway, LED lighting, a performance stage, and a modern toilet complex, all totaling ₹2.80 crore. Furthermore, the Kalvathy community hall has been revitalized with a budget of ₹6 crore. This air-conditioned facility, boasting a capacity to accommodate 50 people, allows local residents to hold events and functions at competitive rates.
The inaugurations were attended by notable local leaders, with K.J. Maxy, MLA, and Hibi Eden, MP, cutting the ribbons for the new facilities at the Mattancherry Women and Child Hospital and the Kalvathy community hall, respectively. Mayor M. Anilkumar officiated at the opening of the new block at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital, as well as the revamped Diamond Park, while Deputy Mayor K.A. Ansiya was also present to support the initiatives.
These projects reflect a commitment to enhancing both healthcare and community spaces in Kochi, ensuring residents have access to improved medical facilities and inviting public areas for social gatherings. As these initiatives continue, they signal a promising future for the community’s well-being and connectivity.
