Remembering Hemolata Chaliha: A Legacy of Compassion at 95
Renowned social worker Hemolata Chaliha passed away on Monday night at her home in Melachakar, Sivasagar, at the age of 95 due to age-related ailments. Throughout her life, Chaliha was deeply involved in social welfare activities and was celebrated for her unwavering commitment to community service.
Her passing has elicited profound sorrow from various organizations and individuals, including Dipali Chaliha, President of the Sivasagar Natya Samaj, social worker Saurav Chaliha, and members of the Chau-Lung Syukapha Indoor Stadium Management Committee. Additional condolences have been expressed by Seujia Samaj Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, the Sivasagar branch of the Sadou Axom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Kala Bihar Sangeet Vidyalaya, Melachakar Namghar, Melachakar Mahila Samaj, and Hindu Dharma Sabha Namghar, among others.
Chaliha was not only a prominent member of the community but also actively participated in the Sivasagar branch of the Sadou Axom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti. She is survived by her daughter, Ruprekha Baruah, who lives in the United States. Her last rites are scheduled to take place on Thursday.
In related news, the community recently mourned the loss of eminent flautist Dipak Sarma, who passed away at the age of 57.
