Major Scare on Akasa Air: Passenger Arrested After Emergency Exit Attempt
A passenger aboard an Akasa Air flight from Varanasi to Mumbai was detained after allegedly attempting to open the aircraft’s emergency exit shortly before takeoff, officials reported on Tuesday. The incident occurred on flight QP 1497, which was set to leave Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport at 6:45 PM on Monday.
While the aircraft was taxiing toward the runway, the passenger, identified as Sujit Singh from Gaura Badshahpur in Jaunpur district, made the attempt to open the emergency exit, according to police statements. The cabin crew notified the pilot, who then alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC) and returned the aircraft to the apron.
All passengers were safely escorted off the plane, and Sujit Singh was taken into custody for further questioning. Phoolpur Station House Officer Praveen Kumar Singh revealed that Singh told investigators he had acted “out of curiosity.” As a result, he has been formally charged.
Following a security clearance, the flight eventually departed for Mumbai at approximately 7:45 PM.
