In an exhilarating celebration of live music, NOVO, an up-and-coming rock band from Assam, emerged victorious at the “Ticket to Hornbill – India’s Biggest Band Battle 2025,” held on the evening of October 17 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma. This much-anticipated grand finale showcased some of India’s most promising musical talents as they competed fiercely for the top honor. With their electrifying performance and dynamic stage presence, NOVO captivated both the jury and the audience, earning the opportunity to perform at next year’s prestigious Hornbill International Music Festival.

The event saw Juxtaposed from Bengaluru take the 1st Runner-Up spot, while Akhanda from Sikkim claimed the 2nd Runner-Up position. Each of these bands delivered powerhouse sets, reflecting the rich diversity and vitality of India’s independent music scene.

The competition did not just recognize the overall winners; it also celebrated individual musical excellence with various special awards. Akhanda’s musician was honored as Best Keyboardist, while NOVO’s talent shone through as they took home the title of Best Drummer. Juxtaposed’s bassist was awarded Best Bassist, and Akhanda also secured the Best Guitarist title. Stereo Groove from Nagaland was recognized as the Best Vocalist.

The night was further enhanced by Choice Awards presented by leading music brands, which acknowledged exceptional talent in the industry. Thunder’s Cave from Meghalaya received the Sennheiser Choice Award, while the Ibanez Choice Awards went to SoHumble from Delhi and Mood Station from Mizoram.

The event, presented by Bhikharam Chandmal – North East and organized by the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) under the Government of Nagaland, transcended a mere competition. It was a vibrant tribute to the musical diversity of India. TaFMA’s ongoing initiative aims to establish Nagaland as a creative hub for music, fostering cultural collaboration and bringing artists from all over the country together to share their artistry and aspirations.
