Konda Lakshma Reddy, a prominent figure in Telangana politics and the media landscape, passed away on October 13, 2025, at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad. He was 84 years old and succumbed to age-related health issues, leaving behind a legacy deeply rooted in public service and journalism.

The grandson of Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, a former Deputy Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Lakshma Reddy was a long-time member of the Indian National Congress. Throughout his career, he held various influential roles, including spokesperson and chairman of the Grievance Cell for the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). His commitment to the party was unwavering, marked by his candidacy in the Lok Sabha elections from the Hyderabad constituency in both 1999 and 2014, despite not securing a win.

In 1980, Lakshma Reddy launched the News & Services Syndicate (NSS), a local news agency that became a significant platform for emerging journalists. Under his stewardship, NSS not only provided critical training for aspiring media professionals but also served as a key employment resource for hundreds of young talents, particularly catering to the needs of small and medium newspapers across the state.

Lakshma Reddy’s impact extended beyond his agency; he served as President of the Hyderabad Press Club, led the Journalists’ Cooperative Housing Association, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the United Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists’ Union. He was respected for his humane approach, offering guidance and practical advice to fledgling journalists as they navigated their careers in media.

His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues in the media community. K. Sreenivas Reddy, chairman of the Telangana Media Academy; Y. Narender Reddy, Secretary of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU); and K. Virahat Ali, President of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), along with General Secretary Ram Narayana, all expressed their condolences. They fondly recalled their associations with Lakshma Reddy, highlighting his tireless contributions to the welfare of the media fraternity.

As the media and political communities mourn his loss, Konda Lakshma Reddy’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of journalists and public servants. His dedication to the craft and the support he provided to aspiring media professionals will always be remembered.
