Justice Prevails: West Bengal Police Vow to Punish Culprits in Shocking Medical Student Gang-Rape Case-No Rumor Can Deter Us!
A medical college student from Odisha was reportedly the victim of a gang-rape incident in Durgapur district, West Bengal, igniting widespread outrage. On Saturday, state police urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors while assuring that those responsible would “not go unpunished.” In a post on social media platform X, the West Bengal Police expressed their deep sorrow over the assault, stating, “The pain of the victim is as much ours as it is Odisha’s, and we shall leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The attack occurred late Friday night when the second-year student at a private medical college was leaving for dinner with a friend. Her family reported that the incident took place outside the college campus at approximately 10 PM. “We came here this morning and lodged a complaint with the police. I had heard that the college performed well academically, which is why we sent our daughter to study medicine here,” her father remarked as he expressed concern and disbelief over the incident.
In response to the allegations, police have initiated an investigation. An officer from the New Township Police Station revealed that the victim and her friend had left campus between 8 PM and 8:30 PM. Details emerging from the investigation suggest that the attackers initially demanded money from the student for the return of her mobile phone before assaulting her. The survivor is currently recovering at the college hospital and has provided her testimony to police, who are also engaged in collecting crucial evidence.
Durgapur Commissionerate’s Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Gupta emphasized the sensitivity of the case, stating, “The investigation is being conducted with all aspects in mind. As soon as more information is available, it will be shared.” According to reports, the victim was left alone when three unidentified men approached her, snatching her phone before taking her to a nearby jungle where the assault occurred. Authorities also noted that the assailants threatened the victim to ensure her silence.
In the wake of the incident, a team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) visited the college hospital to meet with both the victim and her family, further highlighting the ongoing attention and urgency surrounding the case. Police officials are coordinating efforts to locate CCTV footage to aid the investigation, and a forensic team is expected to visit the crime scene.
As the investigation unfolds, the West Bengal Police reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding crimes against women, urging the public to support the efforts to achieve justice. The entire community is impacted by this tragic event, and there is a collective call for swift action and accountability for the perpetrators.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the issues of safety and gender-based violence in India, and it underscores the necessity for continued vigilance and systemic change to protect the rights of women everywhere. The story continues to develop, and authorities are asking for any information that could assist in bringing the assailants to justice.
