Crucial BJP-NDA Seat-Sharing Formula Revealed Today: What to Expect!
Senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J.P. Nadda, convened a meeting on Saturday with party officials and allies to discuss the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. BJP state unit president Dilip Jaiswal indicated that details on seat-sharing arrangements with NDA partners would be revealed by Sunday. This meeting preceded an expected gathering of the BJP’s Central Election Committee, which includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other key leaders, to finalize candidates for the assembly polls set for November 6 and 11.
Sources suggest that the seat-sharing agreement with the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] and the LJP (Ram Vilas) [LJP(RV)] is nearly completed, while negotiations continue with two other allies: Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) [HAM(S)] leader Jitan Ram Manjhi and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha. According to NDA insiders, JD(U) is expected to contest approximately 101 or 102 seats, with the BJP fielding one seat less. Ahead of the meeting, Jaiswal assured the media that “all is well in the NDA,” affirming that the seat-sharing agreement would be announced soon. He expressed confidence in the NDA’s unity, stating, “Everything has been decided in the NDA.”
In another significant comment, Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, asserted that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav would lose the Raghopur assembly seat, drawing parallels to Rahul Gandhi’s defeat in Amethi six years ago. Speaking to reporters in Patna, Kishor stressed the need for feedback from local constituents, who he believes are ready for a change from family dominance in politics. Notably, Tejashwi Yadav, a second-term MLA, is the son of Lalu Prasad, and previous representatives of the seat have included his parents. Kishor criticized the lack of basic amenities in Raghopur and announced a central election committee meeting for his party scheduled for Sunday.
Additionally, in a noteworthy development, Bihar BJP MLA Mishri Lal Yadav announced his resignation from the party, claiming that Dalits and other backward communities were being sidelined. Representing the Alinagar constituency, Yadav intends to submit his resignation to party president Jaiswal. Sources indicate that Yadav’s decision may stem from dissatisfaction over speculation that he would not receive a ticket for the upcoming elections, with the party potentially favoring singer Maithili Thakur instead.
The AIMIM, which has not aligned with the INDIA bloc in Bihar, also revealed plans to contest around 100 seats in the forthcoming assembly elections-five times the number they contested previously. Led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, the party aims to establish a “third alternative” in Bihar’s political landscape, traditionally dominated by the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-RJD alliance. AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman declared, “Our plan is to contest 100 seats,” arguing that both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan will be compelled to recognize AIMIM’s presence in the elections.
