Urgent Alert: Govt Bans Sale of Coldrif Cough Syrup Amid Safety Concerns
The Arunachal Pradesh government has officially banned the sale and use of Coldrif cough syrup following reports that link the medication to the deaths of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh. The decision was announced on Wednesday by an official from the state.
In a related advisory, the Arunachal Pradesh Drugs Control has prohibited the distribution and stocking of Coldrif, which is manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceutical. This move comes after alarming reports from multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, that have associated the syrup with child fatalities. Dr. Komling Perme, the Drugs Controller of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighted that the advisory is also in line with a broader recommendation from the Director General of Health Services in India regarding the cautious use of the cough syrup among pediatric patients.
The health department has instructed stockists and retailers to refrain from purchasing, selling, or keeping the product available for public consumption. Those who currently hold any stock of Coldrif are required to report it to the local drugs control authority immediately.
Additionally, the advisory calls for vigilance among physicians in both public and private healthcare settings when prescribing cough syrup to children. The health department has also urged the general public to avoid using Coldrif altogether, emphasizing safety in light of recent events.
