Enchanting Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir: Experience the Magic of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg-Watch Stunning Videos and Captivating Images!
Fresh snowfall blanketed several popular tourist destinations and higher-altitude regions of Kashmir on Tuesday, while the plains experienced rainfall, according to official reports. This inclement weather led to a notable drop in daytime temperatures across the valley. Areas such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Aru Valley, along with Chandanwari and Kokernag, reported significant snowfall. Additionally, Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road in Shopian district and Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh national highway were also covered in fresh snow, prompting the closure of both routes, officials stated, as reported by PTI.
Snowfall was not limited to just those areas; other high-altitude regions of Jammu and Kashmir, including Sinthan Top in Anantnag district, Affarwat in Gulmarg, and Razdan Pass in Gurez Valley, also experienced fresh snow. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain affected the plains, including Srinagar city, leading to a sharp decline in daytime temperatures. On Monday, Srinagar recorded a high of just 12.5 degrees Celsius, significantly below the seasonal norm of 25.5 degrees Celsius, marking a drop of 13 degrees.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that light to moderate rain and some light snowfall in higher elevations will persist until Tuesday afternoon, with conditions expected to improve thereafter. As a result of the heavy snowfall, Guldanda meadow in Bhaderwah has become a sought-after destination for tourists eager to witness the winter landscape. The region has transformed into a winter wonderland, luring visitors from Delhi and Haryana who seek to immerse themselves in its scenic charm.
Guldanda, located at an altitude of 9,555 feet along the Bhadarwah-Pathankot highway, experienced its first snowfall of the season, igniting excitement among locals and stakeholders in the tourism sector. A tourist expressed delight to ANI, stating, “Bhaderwah is a great place to visit, and in the first week of October, the whole place is covered under snow; the scenic beauty of this place is very good.” A local resident echoed this sentiment, adding, “The fresh snow over Guldanda and the surrounding high-altitude peaks is not just a beautiful sight but also a sign of hope for all of us in the tourism sector.”
Amid the weather disturbances, the district administration in Doda has urged residents to exercise caution, advising against non-essential travel and encouraging them to maintain a safe distance from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas. Persistent rains over the last two days have heightened the need for vigilance, and disaster management teams are on standby to respond quickly to any emergencies that may arise due to the ongoing weather conditions.
As winter continues its descent on Kashmir, both tourists and locals are reminded of the beauty and potential challenges that come with the season. The region’s stunning landscapes serve as a testament to nature’s allure, drawing visitors while simultaneously requiring caution from its residents.
