Assam Youth to Shine as India’s Representatives at World Conservation Congress
Assam’s youth leader Tanuj Samaddar has been selected to attend the IUCN World Conservation Congress, taking place in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 15. This selection was made by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The World Conservation Congress is held every four years and gathers experts, leaders, and policymakers dedicated to nature conservation. This year’s theme, “Power of Transformative Change,” focuses on implementing actionable solutions for preserving biodiversity and mitigating climate change. The event plays a crucial role in advancing the goals set forth in the Convention on Biological Diversity and the climate targets established during COP21 in Paris.
Samaddar, who hails from Rangia in Kamrup district, is an undergraduate student at Delhi University and has received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. He also serves on the IUCN’s Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP).
During the congress, he will engage in thematic sessions and country-specific pavilions, where he will interact with global policymakers and activists. His aim is to draw attention to the increasing threats facing Assam’s wetlands.
