Meghalaya CM Inspires Youth at ICYM Silver Jubilee in Kerala
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the closing ceremony of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) on Sunday at the Divine Retreat Centre in Kerala. During the event, he encouraged young people to lead with courage, compassion, and integrity. The Holy Mass for the occasion was officiated by Cardinal Felipe Neri Ferrao of Goa, who is also the President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI).
Sangma congratulated ICYM on 25 years of impactful service and leadership, praising the movement for its role in shaping “leaders of integrity” and cultivating “a culture of compassion and service.” He urged the youth to act as “beacons of hope,” standing firm in their values while advocating for truth, justice, and kindness.
“Let this Jubilee be the fire that reignites your spirit, the challenge that sharpens your purpose, and the call that sets your feet in motion,” Sangma remarked in his address. He urged the young attendees to “lead with boldness, serve with humility, and shine with the light of Christ.”
Highlighting the importance of youth in today’s digital era, Sangma encouraged them to use technology for positive social change, promote social entrepreneurship, and uplift marginalized communities. “The digital age should be used to build, not break. Leverage global connections to think big and act locally,” he emphasized, noting the essential role the younger generation plays in transforming the Church, the country, and the world.
Sangma also recognized the ICYM leadership for its dedication to empowering Catholic youth and fostering faith-driven service over the past quarter-century, highlighting the movement’s influential contributions to the community.
