Gauhati University Honors Zubeen Garg with Renaming of Arts Centre
In a moving tribute to the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, Gauhati University has announced the renaming of its Centre for Performing Arts and Culture in his honor. This decision was confirmed by university authorities on Friday and is part of four proposals aimed at commemorating Garg’s extraordinary contributions to music and culture.
As a centerpiece of the tribute, a statue of Zubeen Garg will be erected in front of the center, symbolizing inspiration for future generations. Additionally, the university intends to publish a coffee table book that will showcase biographical narratives and highlights from Garg’s artistic journey.
To engage and inspire young talent, the university will also introduce a new competition category called “Zubeen’s Songs” during its inter-college youth festival. This initiative will provide budding singers an opportunity to perform and celebrate his music.
Zubeen Garg, who was widely regarded as the voice of Assam and a youth icon, tragically passed away on September 19 in Singapore. His untimely death has created an irreplaceable void in the cultural landscape of Assam, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans and admirers both within the state and beyond.
