Manipur Police Take Action: KCP Cadre Arrested for Business Threats
Manipur police apprehended Kshetrimayum Brajamohon Singh, a 53-year-old member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party, on September 23. He was taken into custody at his residence in Nungoi Makha Leikai, located within the Lamlai Police Station’s jurisdiction. Officials reported that Singh had been actively intimidating local shopkeepers and obstructing government development initiatives in the Imphal East district.
Authorities highlighted that Singh’s actions threatened to shut down various businesses in Lamlai, creating an atmosphere of fear among local entrepreneurs. This arrest is part of a broader effort by Manipur police to mitigate insurgent activities that have been detrimental to the region’s economic growth and development programs.
Local business owners have voiced concerns about the intimidation, emphasizing that it has adversely affected their daily operations and livelihoods. During Singh’s arrest, police confiscated a mobile phone, which is anticipated to yield significant evidence regarding his affiliations and activities within the outlawed group.
The Kangleipak Communist Party is designated as a banned organization under Indian law, with its members facing serious allegations relating to terrorism and anti-national endeavors. The Lamlai Police Station has initiated a case and is carrying out further investigations into Singh’s alleged actions and any potential links to other operatives of the KCP in the area.
