Discover India’s Longest, Dirtiest Train Journey: 75 Hours Across 9 States!
Hundreds of trains operate across India, each serving various routes and purposes. The fastest options offer luxury, while others prioritize comfort. However, not all trains provide such experiences. Recently, a viral video posted by travel vlogger Ujjwal Singh has drawn attention to what many are calling India’s dirtiest train. This shocking footage surfaced on social media, revealing a train journey beset by filth and unpleasant odors, leading to widespread outrage among viewers.
The train in question, the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express, undertakes a grueling 4,000-kilometer journey that lasts between 74 to 75 hours. Operating across nine states, it has gained notoriety for its unclean conditions, with complaints highlighting the state of toilets and washbasins. Although the Indian Railways has not officially reported data categorizing trains by cleanliness, the sheer volume of complaints prompted a recent report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), which disclosed that over 100,000 grievances regarding train hygiene have been filed, particularly concerning toilet sanitation.
Passengers riding the Vivek Express have described their experiences as hellish, often enduring unbearable circumstances. Despite certain improvements in railway facilities over the years, Indian trains continue to grapple with cleanliness issues. The Garib Rath train from Amritsar to Saharsa has also been flagged as one of the dirtiest, where travelers are often packed tightly in less-than-hygienic conditions, despite relatively high ticket prices.
As people express their discontent through platforms like the Madad app to register complaints, the ongoing problem of cleanliness remains a significant concern for travelers. With the broader implications of comfort and hygiene being critical to the overall travel experience, this issue merits attention and action from the authorities.
