Urgent Arrest: Man Impersonating ULFA(I) Member Caught in Boko Extortion Scheme
Assam Police in Boko have arrested a man accused of extorting money while posing as a member of the banned organization ULFA (Independent). The suspect, identified as Shankar Rabha and a resident of Krishnai in the Goalpara district, was apprehended in Jarapara after the police set a trap.
Authorities reported that Rabha demanded ₹1 lakh from local businessman Arbind Roy of Bonggaon, Boko. Following a complaint from Roy, police detained Rabha as he arrived to collect the money.
Initial investigations revealed that Rabha had already extorted ₹1 lakh from Roy in the past. Prior to making the latest demand, he allegedly sent a demand note and a WhatsApp message claiming to be “Lieutenant Nayan Asom” of ULFA (I).
The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani of Boko Police Station. Police confirmed that Rabha is undergoing intensive interrogation.
A case has been filed at Boko Police Station (Case No. 281/2025) under Section 308(5) related to the incident. Authorities are also investigating whether Rabha has connections to other extortion operations that disguise themselves as affiliated with the proscribed militant group.
