Empowering Change: Tripura Distributes 11,130 Smartphones to Anganwadi Workers
In a significant initiative to enhance the Poshan Abhiyan, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the distribution of 11,130 smartphones to anganwadi workers. The smartphones, equipped with the Poshan Tracker app, are designed to improve the monitoring and implementation of nutrition programs for mothers and children, enabling real-time data collection.
Saha also unveiled 14 development projects and laid the foundation for five working women’s hostels, each accommodating 100 individuals, as well as a 50-seat boys’ hostel at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET). This initiative represents a total investment of approximately Rs 61 crore. The Tripura government is prioritizing infrastructure development with a budget allocation of Rs 7,000 crore and has approved the establishment of two one-stop centers in Kailashahar and Agartala.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, Saha announced that 14,575 divyangjans will receive a monthly social allowance of Rs 2,000. Additionally, 4,286 children have been awarded a monthly sponsorship of Rs 4,000 for the financial year 2024-25. Furthermore, 101 children have been granted Rs 50,000 each for rehabilitation, and 940 children are currently housed in 44 childcare homes across eight districts.
Plans for constructing 10 more working women’s hostels statewide were announced, with an allocated budget of Rs 114 crore for the project. Each hostel will offer amenities such as gyms, entertainment facilities, sports courts, round-the-clock security, and childcare services.
Saha emphasized Tripura’s alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat@2047, pointing out that the state ranks fifth nationally and first among Northeast states. Additionally, 46 anganwadi centers have been established under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, all focusing on nutrition, health, and pre-primary education.
In line with the Juvenile Justice Act of 2015, aftercare facilities for young women aged 18–21 are being developed to provide education, vocational training, life skills, and psychological support. This comprehensive approach underlines the state’s commitment to improving the welfare and empowerment of its citizens.
