Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Tripura on September 22 to inaugurate the recently completed beautification and reconstruction of the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, located in the Gomati district. This revered Shakti Peeth, one of Eastern India’s holiest sites, has received a significant overhaul through the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme, which was initiated after the BJP government took office in the state and is now nearing completion.
The central government allocated approximately Rs 38 crore for the renovation efforts under the PRASAD scheme, while the state government contributed an additional Rs 7 crore. Officials indicate that this revitalized project is expected to notably enhance spiritual tourism and solidify Tripura’s standing as an emerging tourist destination on the map.
On Saturday, prominent officials-including Chief Secretary Kiran Gitte, Principal Secretary Abhishek Singh, DGP Anurag, IG (Law & Order) Manchak Ipper, and Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, among others-conducted a site visit to ensure all preparations are in order ahead of the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit.
