Nagaland’s Peleno Petenilhu Awarded National Teachers Award 2025!
Peleno Petenilhu, a passionate educator from John Government Higher Secondary School in Viswema, Kohima, has achieved a remarkable honor by receiving the National Teachers Award 2025. This recognition comes as part of a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on September 5, 2025, where she stood alongside 65 distinguished educators from across India. In a country with around 9.8 million teachers, being recognized in such a vast community underscores her exceptional dedication and influence.
With over two decades of teaching experience, Peleno has consistently shown a commitment to nurturing the minds of her students with compassion and creativity. Her teaching journey began at Government High School Seikhazou, and since 2014, she has been an influential figure at John Government Higher Secondary School. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes “Education with Empathy, Leadership with Purpose,” inspiring both students and fellow teachers.
One of Peleno’s most significant contributions is the “Each One Teach One” initiative, which encourages Class 12 students to mentor younger peers from underprivileged backgrounds. This innovative peer-learning approach reflects her belief that education surpasses traditional classrooms and textbooks. The initiative not only empowers the mentees but also fosters leadership and empathy in the mentors, embodying her motto: “Inspire One, Empower Many.”
For Peleno, teaching transcends mere occupation; it is a lifelong mission. She actively works to reduce student dropout rates through personal initiatives such as home visits, sponsoring admission fees, and even providing mobile phones to disadvantaged learners. Her core belief in “Transforming Lives Through Compassionate Teaching” drives these endeavors.
In her role as President of the English Professional Learning Community in Kohima District, Peleno promotes collaboration among educators through various platforms, including WhatsApp groups and online meetings. She is also committed to advancing digital education by creating e-content for the ABHYAAS Learning Management System and developing lesson plans for the DIKSHA platform.
Peleno’s unwavering dedication has not gone unnoticed; she was awarded the State Teacher Award in 2024, reinforcing the belief that “One Teacher Can Transform Countless Futures.” Through her relentless efforts, Peleno Petenilhu continues to fulfill her calling, “Lighting Minds, Building Futures.”
