Sarbananda Sonowal Unveils Groundbreaking INI Radiology Update 2025 at AIIMS Guwahati
The INI Radiology Update 2025, organized by the Radiological Forum for Institutes of National Importance (INIs) in collaboration with AIIMS Guwahati, was inaugurated today, attracting radiologists, clinicians, researchers, and scientists from across India and beyond. This significant event sees participation from all AIIMS institutions, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram, SGPGIMS Lucknow, and various leading government medical colleges.
The academic conclave, under the theme “Advancing Imaging & Interventional Radiology,” is designed to encourage collaboration and innovation within radiology and related disciplines. Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, served as the Chief Guest at the inauguration, joined by prominent figures such as Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, and senior radiologists from renowned institutions including AIIMS Bhopal, Rishikesh, and Raipur.
In his address, Shri Sonowal emphasized the conclave as a groundbreaking initiative that enhances academic exchange and aligns with India’s vision of accessible and innovative healthcare. He praised AIIMS Guwahati and the organizing committee for gathering experts and emerging doctors, showcasing the institution’s role in positioning the Northeast as a growing center for medical excellence.
The Minister highlighted significant advancements in India’s healthcare sector since 2014, noting improvements in infrastructure, access, affordability, and innovation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed out the increase in the AIIMS network from seven in 2014 to twenty-three today, including AIIMS Guwahati, bringing world-class healthcare to the Northeast. He also referenced crucial reforms like Ayushman Bharat–PM Jan Arogya Yojana, which provides financial protection to over 55 crore citizens, and the Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, which offers affordable medicines through over 11,000 centers.
Shri Sonowal stressed the critical role of modern diagnostic facilities for the early detection and treatment of ailments such as cancer, stroke, and cardiac diseases. He commended AIIMS Guwahati for its eco-friendly hospital design, illustrating a balance between progress and environmental stewardship. Additionally, he highlighted the Northeast’s rising potential as a hub for healthcare, culture, business, and education, stating, “Hospitals should not just be centers of treatment, but also centers of happiness and healing.”
The three-day INI Radiology Update 2025 will include lectures, panel discussions, and workshops focused on innovations in imaging, interventional radiology, and applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The conclave aims to establish the groundwork for a future Radiological Association of INIs, promoting knowledge-sharing, training, and collaboration among premier institutions across the country.
