Fiji PM Rabuka Champions ‘Ocean of Peace’ Vision for the Pacific
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji has articulated his vision for an “Ocean of Peace,” calling for a Pacific region that is free from conflict and coercion. He emphasized that this vision should be fostered through dialogue, diplomacy, and consensus, firmly rooted in cooperation and respect for international law.
Rabuka presented these thoughts during the 54th Sapru House Lecture on the theme of “Ocean of Peace,” an event organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs. In his address, he highlighted the crucial role of safeguarding the region’s land and seas for the benefit of future generations. He underlined India’s significance as a key ally in enhancing Fiji’s voice, supporting its advocacy for a rules-based order in the Pacific, and tackling shared challenges such as climate change and nuclear proliferation.
The lecture was chaired by Nutan Kapoor Mahawar, the Acting Director General and Additional Secretary of the Indian Council of World Affairs. It attracted representatives from Pacific nations and international organizations, including the United Nations, underscoring the collaborative spirit that Rabuka advocates for in addressing regional issues.
