Cabinet Greenlights Multi-Tracking Projects and New Kutch Rail Line!
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the multi-tracking of three rail projects benefiting the states of Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar, and Assam, alongside the establishment of a new railway line aimed at connecting remote areas in Kutch, Gujarat. These initiatives are set to enhance connectivity and improve travel convenience, while also reducing logistical costs and dependence on oil imports. The projects are expected to contribute to lower CO2 emissions and support sustainable, efficient rail operations. Additionally, they are projected to generate approximately 251 lakh human-days of direct employment during the construction phase.
The new railway line will establish connectivity to the remote Kutch region, adding 145 route kilometers and 164 track kilometers to the existing railway network in Gujarat. With an estimated cost of ₹2,526 crore, the project is slated for completion within three years. This new line will not only promote tourism in Gujarat but will also facilitate the transportation of essential commodities such as salt, cement, coal, clinker, and bentonite. Importantly, it will ensure accessibility to the Rann of Kutch, with significant sites like the Harappan archaeological site of Dholavira, Koteshwar Temple, Narayan Sarovar, and Lakhpat Fort being incorporated into the railway network. In total, 13 new railway stations will be established, directly benefiting 866 villages and around 1.6 million residents in the area.
