Five Arrested in Manipur Drug Bust: Major Meth Seizure Shakes Community
A joint operation by the Manipur Police, CRPF, and BSF led to the arrest of five individuals involved in drug-related activities on August 23. Authorities seized over 2.3 kg of methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as WY tablets, along with vehicles, cash records, and other incriminating materials.
The arrested suspects include Md. Mustakim (39), Md. Arif (20), and Md. Ajit (32), all from Lilong, as well as Mrs. Ruhima (26), the wife of Md. Ajit, and Md. Baboy, also known as Yahiya Khan (35), from Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.
The operation resulted in the collection of 2.27 kg of WY tablets from Mustakim’s residence and an additional 45 grams from Baboy’s home. Authorities also confiscated six mobile phones, various account ledgers, diaries, two vehicles implicated in trafficking (a Duster ML05L-0490 and an Alto AS05N-7322), and 120 empty plastic containers.
Police noted that Md. Mustakim is a habitual offender, previously apprehended by Assam Police in 2022 for transporting 205 soap cases of heroin. He served two years in jail and was released on bail in January 2025. Meanwhile, Md. Baboy was arrested in 2020 for trafficking 7,000 WY tablets and was granted bail in 2023.
Investigations are ongoing. Simultaneously, the Manipur Police have intensified efforts against motor vehicle violations, issuing 84 traffic challans totaling Rs 137,500 on August 23, and removing tinted films from three vehicles on August 22.
