Mon District was alive with celebration on Monday, honoring the men’s football team following their victorious run in the Dr. T. Ao Trophy 24th Inter-District Football Championship 2025. The thanksgiving event took place at the Local Ground in Mon and was organized collaboratively by the Mon District Administration, the Mon District Football Association (MDFA), and various Konyak civil society organizations.
Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak expressed pride in the team’s achievement, declaring it a moment of triumph not only for the players but for all supporters of the district. He emphasized that this victory marks the beginning of a more successful journey ahead and encouraged the team to maintain their winning spirit.
Temwang Konyak, president of the Konyak Students’ Union, described the championship as “history in the making,” stating that the final match would be remembered for many years. He highlighted that the event transcended sports, embodying unity, courage, and pride that showcase the essence of being Konyak. He called the win an inspiration for the youth of Mon.
Superintendent of Police Kanchan Kumar Kandpal congratulated the team, referring to the triumph as “a dream fulfilled” that would inspire young people to work harder and honor the legacy left by the players. Leaders from Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong and Konyak Union also commended the team, urging them to keep the spirit of victory alive.
The thanksgiving event included prayers, cultural presentations, and reflections on the team’s journey through the championship. MDFA president Chingmei Konyak shared a personal testimonial, and Hentok Konyak provided a special performance during the program, which concluded with a benediction led by Rev. Yeangphong, the District Chaplain.
