Several individuals have been detained in connection with the recent neonatal death incidents at GMCH, and an investigation has been launched under the leadership of DCP Mrinal Deka. On Monday night, police collected statements from GMCH staff and gathered CCTV footage from the NICU to aid their inquiry. Following this investigation, there may be further arrests involving several doctors, nurses, and staff from the NICU.
In a separate operation, the police are also addressing issues concerning corrupt staff at GMCH. An investigation is underway into workers who allegedly solicited funds under the guise of trolley puller services. During this operation, 11 trolley pullers were apprehended-eight males and three females. Reports indicate that these pullers collected between 500 to 1,000 rupees from the relatives of patients.
Complaints against the corrupt staff were raised by affected families, prompting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to order swift action leading to the immediate arrest of those involved. The situation has sparked significant concern regarding the integrity of services at GMCH and the protection of patients’ rights.
