Strategic Talks: Wang Yi to Meet PM Ahead of Modi’s Upcoming China Visit
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, marking an important diplomatic engagement ahead of Modi’s visit to China, his first in seven years. Modi is scheduled to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, where he plans to hold bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day trip, during which he will engage in talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. An initial dialogue among foreign ministers is planned for Monday evening, while Wang and Doval will conduct the 24th round of Special Representatives meetings regarding the boundary issue on Tuesday morning.
Wang’s meeting with Modi is expected at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, during which he will provide a briefing on the SCO summit agenda and share updates on the progress in Sino-Indian relations. Additionally, Wang and Jaishankar aim to finalize discussions on the agenda for the upcoming Modi-Xi bilateral meeting.
There is also anticipation for an announcement regarding the resumption of direct flights between India and China, enhancing connectivity between the two nations.
