Patna Shocking Abduction Case: Minor Relative Taken Over Loan Debt
A 12-year-old boy was reportedly kidnapped by his cousin by marriage in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on Saturday as part of a scheme to recover a loan of ₹12 lakh, according to police reports. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Superintendent of Police for Patna City (West), stated that an FIR was filed at the Phulwarisharif Police Station shortly after the incident. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was then established under the leadership of SHO Ghulam Shahbaz Alam. Within six hours, authorities located the boy unharmed, and the primary suspect, Ramesh Ranjan, 43, was arrested. Police also seized a car, a knife, two mobile phones, and ₹6,420 in cash from him.
Singh noted that the child suffered minor injuries during his captivity but received necessary medical care. The motivation behind the abduction was to clear a significant outstanding debt by demanding ransom. In an alarming twist, the boy informed the police that Ranjan had lured him outside under the pretense of visiting his maternal grandparents. During their escape, Ranjan allegedly attempted to incapacitate the child using chloroform.
During questioning, Ranjan reportedly disclosed that he had taken out loans totaling ₹15 lakh for his beauty shop on Jagdeo Path and orchestrated the kidnapping to secure funds to pay off the remaining ₹12 lakh. Initially, Ranjan had plotted to abduct a different target, but after that attempt failed, he resorted to kidnapping the boy.
