Trump’s Bold Claim: Preventing 5,000-7,000 Weekly Deaths During Putin Meeting
Former U.S. President Donald Trump reported a “productive” meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at mitigating the human toll of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. During a joint press conference in Anchorage, Trump asserted that the discussions centered on potential measures that could save thousands of lives each week, contingent upon cooperation between Moscow and Kyiv.
“We’re going to stop 5,000, 6,000, 7,000 people a week from being killed, and President Putin wants to see that as much as I do,” Trump stated. He conveyed that while the talks led to agreement on numerous issues, several significant points remain unresolved.
“There were many, many points that we agreed on. But there are still a couple of big ones where we haven’t quite got there. We’ve made some headway, but there’s no deal until we have a deal,” he explained.
Trump also mentioned plans to update NATO allies, relevant officials, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the meeting’s outcomes. Acknowledging the efforts of officials from both the U.S. and Russia, Trump expressed appreciation for their roles in facilitating the dialogue. “The people who worked on this, both American and Russian, did a really great job,” he remarked.
Though the meeting was characterized as constructive, the road to a concrete resolution of the conflict remains unclear.
