Kamrup DC Spearheads Urgent Survey in Contested Boko Villages
Kamrup District Commissioner (DC) Deba Kumar Mishra visited Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari, two remote villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Boko, on August 11. This visit is part of ongoing efforts to settle a long-standing boundary dispute between the two states.
During his inspection, DC Mishra informed reporters that this initiative involves a joint survey conducted by officials from both Assam and Meghalaya. “A survey is underway along the Assam-Meghalaya border. Officials from both sides are here to review the border villages. We have thoroughly checked one area and will proceed to the next. These villages are so inaccessible that we had to trek on foot,” he explained.
Mishra emphasized the importance of interacting with the residents in the disputed areas, stating, “We listened to the concerns of the people and will incorporate them into our assessment.” The regions of Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari are geographically situated within Assam but have been claimed by certain groups in Meghalaya.
The Kamrup district administration’s visit was aimed at fostering dialogue and seeking solutions to the dispute. Mishra was accompanied by Additional District Commissioner Garga Mohan Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak, DFO Kamrup West Subodh Talukdar, PWD engineer Manik Dutta, and other officials.
On his way back, Mishra also inspected the under-construction subdivisional commissioner’s office in Bako, scheduled to be inaugurated on August 12.
