Belthangady MLA Demands Urgent Police Action Against Deceptive Rumors: Stand Against Misinformation!
Harish Poonja, the MLA for Belthangady, has called for police action against individuals spreading misinformation regarding the investigation into alleged burials near Dharmasthala. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Poonja emphasized that he refrained from commenting publicly on the matter to avoid interfering with the ongoing efforts of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Currently, the SIT has not released any official updates or interim reports to the State government, but Poonja expressed concern about the false narratives that are complicating the situation and disturbing community peace.
The MLA urged police to proactively address the issue of misinformation, stating that both supporters and detractors of the investigation are contributing to societal unrest. “The police should take immediate action against those disseminating false statements related to the investigation,” Poonja noted, highlighting the urgent need for maintaining law and order in the region.
Poonja also touched upon a related incident from August 6, during which a clash took place in Pangala, Dharmasthala, involving around ten Hindu activists and BJP workers, following an assault on three YouTubers and a cameraman. He defended these activists, claiming they had been falsely implicated due to pressure from leftist parties and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). “These individuals are innocent. The police should not act under external pressures, which only breeds mistrust among the community,” he stated.
The MLA urged law enforcement to approach these cases with fairness, asserting that Hindu activists and BJP members should not face undue scrutiny. Highlighting the delicate nature of the current investigation, Poonja called upon the State government to take vigilant measures to ensure peace and stability in Belthangady.
As this situation unfolds, the attention remains on both the police response to misinformation and the outcomes of the ongoing SIT investigation, setting the stage for critical discussions about community trust and law enforcement practices in the region.
