AJYCP Urges Assam Government: Resist Turning State into Foreign Dumping Ground
Members of the All Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) held a protest in Nagaon on Sunday in response to the state government’s decision to withdraw cases from the Foreigners Tribunal concerning six individuals of various religious backgrounds. Protesters accused the BJP-led government of having a “pro-Bangladeshi character” and expressed concerns about Assam becoming a “dumping ground for foreigners.”
Tensions escalated during the demonstration in the Jur area when police attempted to impede the AJYCP’s march. A confrontation ensued between demonstrators and law enforcement, leading to the dismantling of police barricades. Protesters managed to take control of the main road in Nagaon, temporarily disrupting traffic.
AJYCP leaders criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling his policies as favorable to illegal immigrants. They also condemned the state government for allegedly jeopardizing Assam’s demographic integrity.
The withdrawal of these six tribunal cases has provoked strong reactions from various Assamese nationalist organizations, who perceive the action as part of a broader political strategy ahead of upcoming elections. Police maintained a presence at the protest site to prevent further escalation of tensions.
