Trump Achieves Historic Peace: Ending Decades of Hostility Between Two Muslim Nations
US President Donald Trump has announced a groundbreaking peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, marking the end of a decades-long conflict. In a ceremony held at the White House, leaders from both nations signed an agreement that not only emphasizes peace but also lays the groundwork for key transport routes in the South Caucasus region. This pivotal agreement includes the establishment of an important transit corridor, aptly named the Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
Trump responded to the naming of the corridor in his characteristic style, expressing it as a “great honor for me” while stating, “I did not ask for it.” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev touted the corridor as a means to foster connections between multiple countries, emphasizing that it signals a move towards a strategic partnership. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to this agreement as a significant milestone, underscoring their goal to create a better narrative than their past conflicts.
Aliyev praised the agreement as a miracle, attributing the success to Trump’s efforts within a mere six months. He noted that after 35 years of conflict, the nations are now friends with intentions to maintain that friendship. The transit route will link Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave, which is currently separated by a narrow stretch of Armenia.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that the agreement would forge a collaborative future, benefiting both nations, their respective regions, and beyond. She highlighted that the new corridor would guarantee uninterrupted connectivity between Armenia and Azerbaijan while respecting Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
