A faction within the Malayalam film industry has rallied in support of actor Shwetha Menon, following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against her under Section 67 A of the Information Technology Act of 2000. The FIR alleges that Shwetha has profited from her roles in films deemed vulgar and obscene. The case was initiated by the Ernakulam Central police after a directive from the First Class Judicial Magistrate in Ernakulam on August 6, 2025.
Actor Maala Parvathi has voiced her suspicions about the motives behind the complaint lodged by an individual from Ernakulam, positing that it may be linked to Shwetha’s candidacy for the presidency of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). Parvathi suggested that the complaint might stem from a disgruntled party whose ambitions within the organization have faltered. “This appears to be a conspiracy against Shwetha, much like what occurred with actor Kukku Parameswaran, who is also vying for a position within AMMA,” she remarked in a social media post.
Senior actor Devan, who is also campaigning for the AMMA presidency, denounced the complaint as “nonsense” and speculated that it was filed with ulterior motives. “This allegation lacks credible grounding and will not stand up in court. While we may have internal disagreements, no member of our community would endorse such groundless accusations,” he asserted.
Actor Raveendran, in the race for the general secretary position, echoed this sentiment, stating that the association would collectively reject any attempts to malign its members based on unfounded claims. He called for an inquiry into how the complaint originated, suggesting that it was crafted with malicious intent. Raveendran emphasized the need for vigilance against such defamatory actions within their ranks.
